Common Questions

What is the difference between Dynamics 365 Finance and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management?

Microsoft split D365 F&O into separate apps: Dynamics 365 Finance (financial management, budgeting, project accounting) and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management (inventory, warehouse, manufacturing, transportation). Most enterprise buyers licence both. Dynamics 365 Business Central is a completely separate, mid-market product — they do not share a codebase.

How does D365 F&O compare to SAP S/4HANA?

Both are tier-1 enterprise ERPs with similar overall capability. D365 F&O wins for organisations deeply committed to the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure, Power BI, Teams, Office 365) — the integration benefits are genuine. SAP S/4HANA has a larger global implementation community and is the market leader in most manufacturing verticals. In most individual countries, SAP tends to have a deeper local partner pool and a longer history of country-specific modules than Microsoft.

Does Dynamics 365 F&O integrate with Power BI?

Exceptionally well. D365 F&O has pre-built Power BI content packs for finance, purchasing, and inventory. Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse enables direct query of operational data from Power BI without ETL. For enterprise businesses already invested in the Microsoft BI stack, this is a significant advantage over SAP or Oracle.

What is Microsoft Copilot for Dynamics 365 F&O?

Microsoft is embedding Copilot AI features across D365 F&O — including natural language querying of financial data, automated report generation, collections summaries, and vendor risk analysis. This is an evolving feature set; the depth and regional availability of Copilot capabilities is increasing with each release cycle.
